It is native to woodland areas in the himalayas and china. Edgeworthia chrysantha commonly called paper bush is a compact deciduous shrub that blooms in late winter through early spring. The flower buds open steadily from mid january to early april producing an overwhelmingly fragrant display of pendent golden yellow flowers. Like its botanical cousin daphne edgeworthia produces extremely fragrant butterfly attracting flowers in the winter and early spring. Edgeworthia chrysantha also known as the paperbush plant provides superb winter interest and fragrance.

Short stalked lanceolate oblong dark green leaves to 3 5 long and 2 wide are crowded near the branch ends. The edgeworthia paperbush flowers remain on the bush for three weeks. Edgeworthia flowers exude a sweet fragrance similar to daphne further enhancing their sunny disposition. They exude a powerful perfume in the evening. The summer loving tree sheds its leaves in fall and late winter going through beautiful fall colors and grows new ones in spring.
